A note on visa guidance: RecruitUp Global is a recruitment agency, not a migration agent. All content on this site is for general educational purposes only. For immigration advice or to lodge a visa application, consult a MARA-registered migration agent. RecruitUp specialises in finding and placing qualified South African tradespeople with Australian employers who are ready to sponsor β€” we handle the recruitment side, not the visa lodgement.

About the CSOL

What Is the Core Skills Occupation List?

The Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) is the list of occupations eligible for the Core Skills stream of the 482 Skills in Demand visa. It replaced the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) when the Skills in Demand visa launched in December 2024.

For a position to qualify under the Core Skills stream, the nominated occupation must appear on the CSOL. Each occupation is identified by its ANZSCO code β€” a 6-digit reference from the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations.

The CSOL is maintained by the Department of Home Affairs and updated periodically. Conditions can change β€” always verify the current list at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au.

Agriculture

Agricultural Occupations

RecruitUp places South African professionals in Australian agriculture β€” particularly farm management and livestock roles where South African expertise in large-scale farming and game/cattle management is highly valued.

Management and specialist agricultural roles fall under the Core Skills stream. Lower-skilled seasonal agricultural labour generally falls under the Essential Skills stream, which requires a Labour Agreement β€” a separate process not covered here.

Questions

Common Questions

What is the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)?
The CSOL is the list of occupations eligible for the Core Skills stream of the 482 Skills in Demand visa. It is maintained by the Department of Home Affairs and is updated periodically. Each occupation is identified by its ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) code. A position must be on the CSOL for the employer to nominate it under the Core Skills stream.
What is an ANZSCO code?
ANZSCO is the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations β€” the official system for classifying jobs and skill levels. Each occupation has a unique 6-digit code. For 482 visa purposes, the nominated position must match an ANZSCO code on the CSOL, and the worker's qualifications and experience must be consistent with that occupation as described in the ANZSCO structure.
How do I check if my occupation is currently on the CSOL?
The current CSOL is published on the Department of Home Affairs website. The list is updated and conditions for individual occupations can change. Always verify against the current published list at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au before making any placement decisions. A migration agent can advise on the specific conditions that apply to your occupation.
My trade isn't in the table above β€” does that mean I'm not eligible?
Not necessarily. The table above lists the trades most commonly placed through RecruitUp. The full CSOL contains many more occupations. Check the current CSOL on the Department of Home Affairs website for your specific ANZSCO code. If you're unsure whether your occupation qualifies, a migration agent can assess your specific situation.
Can agricultural workers use the 482 visa?
Yes, for management and specialist roles. Farm managers, livestock managers, and crop farm managers are on the CSOL and are placed through the Core Skills stream. Lower-skilled seasonal agricultural labour generally falls under the Essential Skills stream (which requires a Labour Agreement) rather than the Core Skills stream.
